Hello Parents,
My name is Gabriela Sullen and I am your Pontiac Parent University coordinator. Currently I attend Oakland University as a graduate student obtaining a master’s in Public Administration with a concentration in health care. I attended Wayne State University for my undergraduate degree in which I received in Psychology with a minor in Latino Studies. I am a Detroit native and very passionate about health and education disparities in small urban communities. I am Venezuelan and African American which gives me an interesting cultural experience as I am also bilingual. I am here as a resource to help you along the way.
Parent University is a holistic approach between community partners and the school district to help parents to become the advocates that their children need for their educational success. The University component of this program offers courses to our parents in the district for free. We engage parents through courses in these four areas.
We offer courses under these four categories:
Health and Wellness
Navigating the Education System
Effective Parenting
Personal Growth and Development
Office Hours: Mon/Wed 9am-2pm and Tues/Thurs 11am-4pm
Office phone: 248-451-6862
A very big thanks to Oakland University, Genysis Credit Union, and the Pontiac School District.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ~Nelson Mandela
