Safety & Security

Keeping students and staff safe is a priority across Pontiac Schools. The district uses trained security personnel, safety technology, emergency planning, and partnerships with law enforcement to help maintain safe and secure schools.
Each school has emergency plans and procedures in place, and staff receive training to prepare for a range of situations.

Safety in Our Schools

Safety measures across the district include:

  • Security personnel in every school building
  • Police Authority Officers who patrol district schools
  • Secured exterior doors with designated building entry points
  • Staff identification badges
  • Security cameras and alarm systems
  • ZeroEyes gun detection technology at school campuses and district facilities
  • Weapons detection systems at select locations
  • Numbered exterior doors to help emergency responders quickly identify locations

Emergency Preparedness

Pontiac Schools maintains emergency plans for each school building. Staff receive training in emergency response procedures, including lockdown, fire, and tornado procedures.
Staff training also includes ALICE, CPR/AED, and annual Police Authority Officer training.
During an emergency, the district works with law enforcement and other emergency responders and determines the appropriate response based on the situation.

School Resource Officers

School Resource Officers from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office support schools throughout the district. Officers are based at Pontiac High School and Pontiac Middle School and provide support to schools across Pontiac Schools.
