  • A Letter from Superintendent Williams

Dear Pontiac School District administrators and staff:

I am so proud to share that the Board of Education approved our new partnership agreement with MDE at Monday's board meeting!

This new agreement reinforces our partnerships with MDE, Oakland University, Oakland Community College and Oakland Schools. Most importantly, it ensures that the doors of Pontiac High School and Whitman Elementary will remain open.

I’d like to thank all of you, the school board, our partners, parents, students and community for standing by us since our schools were threatened with closure. The MDE and SRO offices were more than pleased with the progress our District has made when they visited and I owe all of you my gratitude for doing the work that put us in the position to be lauded. Please find more on that HERE.

Increases in our academic achievements, graduation rates, percentile rankings and attendance were all praised.  Because of this, the new agreement allows the District 24 months to meet a 3 to 5 percent growth target for achievement in math, reading, attendance, climate and culture. With your commitment and the continued wraparound support services we receive, I know we will leap above the challenge of meeting these more stringent benchmarks.

We will continue to provide the quality education and customer service experience our students, parents and community are due.

    Kelley Williams, Superintendent

  • Japan ambassadors meet Consulate General, tour Capitol
Eleven energetic seventh-graders who will serve as ambassadors to Japan traveled to the Michigan House of Representatives on Wednesday. The students were guests of State Rep. Tim Greimel.
The Pontiac Middle School and International Technology Academy students learned from Mitsuhiro Wada, the Japanese Consulate General over Michigan and Ohio.  They also met Michihito Hasegawa, the official representing Shiga Prefecture, Japan for the Michigan-Shiga Sister State Board and Andrew Conti of the Japanese Consulate in Detroit. The ambassadors were treated to a tour of the capitol where they were recognized by Rep. Greimel during the House of Representatives legislative session, and enjoyed a Japanese meal at the Ukai Grill in Okemos.
In October, ten student ambassadors, chaperones, and guests will travel to Kusatsu, Shiga Prefecture to live in Japanese homes and study in their schools for 10 days.

Classes consist of a one-hour presentation to the parents of the Pontiac Public School District. Courses can be categorized under these four categores: Helath and Wellness, Effective Parenting, Personal Growth and Delvelopment, Navigating the Education System.
